Purchasing After Effects

Hey Guys-

I’m a Shooter/A.C. and I edit my own personal projects. During school I figured out how to get around in After Effects enough to create my own lower thirds and titles. Nowadays I’m on my own and I need to purchase a standard version of After Effects for my computer(mac).

I’m trying to decide which version of After Effects to purchase. It sounds like my computer doesn’t have the horsepower to handle AE 7.0. Right now I’m stuck with my current operating system and I can’t afford to add any ram in the near future. If I purchase a boxed version of AE 6.5 will Adobe still validate the registration #? Any input you guys would really help out. Thanks again for your time.

System Specs

G5 tower w/ a dual 1.8 Ghz power pc processor
512 mb of ram.
OSX Version 10.3.9.

Hey Dave-

I’m using a mac with OSX Version 10.3.9 . I’m currently using Avid Xpress DV to edit. Somewhere down the line I’m going to make the leap to Final Cut. I’m not going to be making the transition to Final Cut in the near future. I use Apple Compressor to create Mpeg-2 files and I build/burn dvds in Dvd Studio Pro. I will be using After Effects to supplement the editing in Xpress DV. I am not pursuing a career path through After Effects, I will be building custom lower thirds, titles, pop ups, etc… for my own projects. Well anyways I hope this gives you a better idea of what I’m up to.

Hey Dave-

Thanks for all the input, this thread is putting me on the right track. At some point in the future I am going to update my system. I’m thinking I might as well get AE 7.0 right now and save some scratch in the future. I have the ATY,RV350 graphics card and OS 10.3.9 . If I use an older preview mode will AE 7.0 work on my current system?

Hello:

I’m a graphic design…have almost of the Adobe publishing software and develop web sites using dreamweaver.

On a recent job i convenced the owner to purchase After Effects 6.5…I now have a fully registered version on my MAC My mechine is strong (it is a MAC G5…2×2.66Dual Core)..2GB memory.

Now what the heck to I do?????

I would appreciate your thoughts on the best course to take to learn how to use this software.

I’d like to train my self and start from zero…and believe me that won’t be that hard at all.
