I had no luck copying P2 contents over FireWire from the HVX200 to a Macbook (FCP 5.0.1, Macbook 1.83Ghz, FireWire 400 drive. I know, I know- a budget system)

Set camera to “1394 device” mode, got Macbook to read it as the “NO NAME” volume (though this was sporadic; sometimes it worked, sometimes I had to power camera on and off several times), but then Macbook (or camera, or both) would crash on the copy.

I did not know that I needed to install a driver, so that might have been the problem.

I have since returned the P2 cards to the rental house, but I was able to import the MXF files via FCP to QTs… sort of. I had shot at 480i 24p, but Final Cut does not seem to see any pulldown when I import. There were no options in the P2 import dialog box to either remove or not remove advanced pulldown (as I saw in another post in this forum), and even Cinema Tools has the telecine option greyed out. Absent of renting a P2 card reader and hoping that the rental house has not wiped my drives, what are my options working with these QTs that FCP, at least, doesn’t seem to think are 24 p? (BTW, After Effects CS3 guesses at and does a pulldown, but I’m unsure whether it’s doing it properly)

    TIA,
    Jonas Cox

I seem to remember the remove pulldown feature being busted in FCP 5.0.1. Also, is it advanced pulldown? As FCP will only remove advanced pulldown, not regular 3:2 pulldown. If it’s 3:2 you must use cinema tools.

Too low a version of FCP- update to 5.1.2 at least or better 6.

Thanks, guys. Do you think media properly pulled down in FCP 6.0 would play in 5.0.1? (I can afford to rent ingest time on an FCP 6.0 system, but not edit time).

The captured media yes, FCP 6 project files no.
