pulldown in 5.1
Hi,
Here’s my situation. I shot a short with 2 different cameras. Camera A was a Canon XH-A1 shot on HDV tapes at what Canon calls 24f (simulated 24 fps look). I shot Camera B with a Sony V1U on HDV tapes at 24p (again, not true 24fps) I captured Camera A at 29.97 – looks great on both computers and NTSC. I captured Camera B at 25fps (I think), though it still shows up on the quicktime file as 29.97. It looks great on computers but awful on NTSC. There seems to be a “jitter” or “stutter” look to the B roll shots whenever there is internal (zoom) or external (tilt) camera movement. When I opened up the quicktime file and looked at it frame by frame, every single B roll shot has this problem: for every 4 or so frames, one of them is clear and three of them are blurry. Thus, played at regular speed, it gives off this choppy or jittery look. Is this a frame rate issue? And if it is, why didn’t I have the same problem with the Camera A shots? Supposedly, with any camera that is not truly 24p but merely a “film” look within 1080i60, like the Canon and the Sony, you don’t need to do a 2:3 3:2 pulldown. We didn’t have to with the Canon in FCP. Do we have to with the Sony and where can I perform that in FCP 5.1, the version I have? Thanks much.
