so theres no possible way of doing that with AE?
I’ve tried with particular but I just cant figure any way of achieving it…

This YouTube clip is definitely done in a 3D application. I would imagine that it’s a 3d model of the dancer with a texture applied that has an alpha channel, so all you see is the music notes. They appear to have surface-emitting particles throwing out music notes to add to the effect.

You will never get this effect with After Effects alone. You could do the music notes that are flying off of the character using multiple instances of Particular, each with a different music note as the source and with different settings, but the character itself would be near impossible to create in AE.

You could not get particles to stick to a 3D model in AE, nor could you get them to follow the moving contours of a 3D model.

You can shoot Particles and get them to stick to a 2D layer in 3D space using Particular, but you can’t tell them where to stick. They do not become the layer.

You can explode a layer into particles using shatter, but once again, it’s a 2D layer in 3D space.

And there’s no way you can make particles stuck to layer A fly over and stick to layer B.

If you want to experiment with sticking, try Particular, but there’s you can’t do what Psyop did using AE. It’s a 2D app with the ability to move flat layers around in 3D space, with a bit of 3D fakery, but Psyop’s effect requires complex 3D particle/model interaction which AE can’t do.

I double check with them tonight – Psyop is speaking at After Effects NY (www.aeny.org), but like everyone said, this is 3D. It may use some 2D particles, but it’s almost all, if not all, 3D

You are right – it is 3D. (I’m working for the agency that did that spot)

You guys do stellar work. I met Laurent and some of your team last night at After Effects New York, and they showed some clips as well as a few AE projects as well.

Plus, I don’t know of any other animation/advertising group that has their own theme song.
