  • PSD title to FCP- pixelated/looks plain messy

Posted by Joe Bressler on August 12, 2008 at 2:14 am

i have been playing with this title for hours today- it seems as if nothing will work to make it appear less pixelated. it is a psd file exported at 720×480. when i bring it into fcp it appears very clear and normal, but as soon as i lay it on the timeline it appears messy and pixelated- is this a result of dv compression or am i doing something wrong?

quick help is much appreciated, i am on a very tight deadline!!
    thanks!

[Joe Bressler] “is this a result of dv compression”

If that is your timeline settings then most likely, DV is a killer on graphics.

There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.

If the resulting QT looks fine, it is a monitoring problem. If you want to see the true quality of your graphics as you edit, it’s best to use a dedicated pro video monitor. If all you have is your computer monitor, set the Canvas at 100% precisely to see a reasonable facsimile of what you’d see on a pro video monitor.

If it’s not that, it’s definitely the DV codec wreaking havoc with your quality.

it seems like the resulting QT looks okay but it is hard to tell. the thing that gets me is some of the titles look completely acceptable but some of them (like the one above) look pixelated. what is the best codec to use when putting graphics over video like that? which one would you suggest?
