  • PSD limited to 60 seconds?

Posted by Jason Livingston on March 15, 2012 at 11:28 pm

    Hello again,
When I import a still image like a JPEG into FCPX 10.0.3, there seems to be no limit to its duration in the project.

However every PSD I import is limited to 60 seconds. I tried hitting ^D on the clip and typed in a longer duration, but it didn’t stick (both in the event view and with a clip on the timeline). The trim tool won’t allow me to extend the clip any longer than 60 seconds.

Other than pasting the PSD multiple times to get the duration I need, is there any solution? Thanks!

Is this a flattened PSD file or a multilayer file?

    All the best,

    Tom

Layered in this case, but I’ll try a flattened file and see… thanks.

    A possible workaround.

Try opening your psd file in timeline view. Opt-T does this.

Within timeline view, select all of your layers and ctl-d to type in a new length.

Now step out of the psd file (cmd- left bracket).

I’ll bet you can now make the clip longer.

You can do this in the event browser or in the timeline. If you do it in the browser, every clip you subsequently edit into your timeline can now be lengthened beyond 1 min. Any clip already in your timeline I believe will still be limited until you replace it.
