PSD files importing as flattened image, not layers
Posted by Brian Pitt on March 28, 2007 at 3:21 pmI have NEVER had this problem before. I am trying to import a layered PSD file, but it keeps coming in as a single image, not as layers. I’m sure there is a simple solution, but I can’t figure it out. ugh…..any help?

March 28, 2007 at 3:29 pmHmmm…I originally created the graphic on a PC. I think that was the problem. I re-did it on a mac and everything is working now.

It shouldn;t be any difference if the files come from a PC or a Mac. make sure that the files RGB and not CMYK, otherwise FC can not interprete them.
Cheers,

March 29, 2007 at 2:00 amActually, I don’t know why, but there is a difference. PC-created PSDs don’t import with layers. Any PC-originated file has to be opened up and re-saved in Photoshop on a Mac to import with layers.

March 30, 2007 at 12:57 amI experience the same problem running FCP 5.1.4 on Intel Macs. Unfortunately not all my Macs have Photoshop. If anyone knows of a workaround it would be appreciated.

September 10, 2008 at 3:44 amHi All,
long time reader, first post, so if i do something terribly noob-ish, please don’t flame me…i have been having this problem for a couple of days now and i think i might have something else you might want to try if you haven’t already.
open the FCP project you need to import your psd’s into.
select your sequence
go to sequence – settings
go to the video rendering tab
select ‘render as 8-bit YUV’
import your 8 bit RGB psd’s that were not working. FCP will think about it for a bit and then you should see the psd’s in your browser as sequences instead of stills
i’d love to know if this helps. it seems to have worked for me…

September 10, 2008 at 5:10 ami think i may have spoken too soon! as well as left out another detail…
before i did what i described in my last post i repaired the permissions on my system drive with the disk utility. not sure if it’s relevant, but you never know.
now what i am getting is that i can open the psd sequences as nests, but they are coming in at the wrong timebase! they are coming in as 25fps, when i need them to come in at 29.97… very strange… i’ll keep trying…
