    Did something change with 10.0.2?

I was very happy with psd files. They came in flat, which is the way I like them. I could build any sort of transparency and it would import exactly as I wanted. I could change the psd, and it would update in FCX exactly as I wanted.

Now I’m having trouble. Some of my psd files are importing as totally white frames.

Some just import as the alpha channel, as a grayscale, with no other picture information.

I may be doing something wrong, but as I look at a file that came in well with one that didn’t, I can’t honestly see what the difference is.

Yes, I’m using rgb mode in 8 bit.

    Doing more tests…
Looking at my PSD in the info window, in the settings view, there is a pull down for “alpha handling”.

I should be able to use that to set the alpha to premultiply, straight or ignore/none.

For some reason, I can change the setting, but it doesn’t always stick.

Anyone have an idea of what I might be doing differently?

It might be me doing something wrong in photoshop…

This is weird: looking at my psd files in the finder, in thumbnail mode, they look normal. When I press the spacebar to see the preview mode, the normal looking psd is now all white.. What the heck?

Hmmm… I think it was the “compatibility” issue.

When I selected to maximize compatibility when I saved from Photoshop, the problem seemed to go away.

    Interesting.

FCPX is reading the flattened preview that’s generated and embedded in the psd when you “maximize compatibility”.

Reproduced this – created file from scratch in Photoshop, layered a couple of stills, adjusted opacity and added a text layer, saved two versions – on with max compatibility and one without.

One with max compatibility is fine. The other version shows a thumbnail in the Finder but is all white in quick view, as it is in FCPX.

When you drag a still from Aperture it does something similar – brings in the preview file at whatever res
    you have set in Aperture.
