  • Proxy files.. how to play back?

Posted by Robin Probyn on January 14, 2013 at 9:24 am

    Hi there

If I record proxy files to a USB stick.. what will the editor need (software ) to view them.. will they just play in content browser..?

Any “type” of USB stick better than any other for the proxy files..

    Thanks

If you record or copy directly to USB the files can be played back with Browser. The camera is pretty forgiving with USB sticks. We’ve tested with Sandisk, Kingston, PNY and Lexar sticks up to 64 GB.

    Hi Ian

OK many thanks.. so footage will play back.. just proxy file.. doesnt need any of the other folders? or some are included when the copy/record proxy function is set in the menu..(pmw500)

any idea how many hrs worth of proxy at UDF 50 Mbps 25p or 30p a 64GB card would hold approx,
what mbps are the proxies recorded at..

    thanks again for your time

They need to be in the file structure that’s recorded/copied from the camera and also they need to be read from an external USB drive. If you copy the files keep the whole ‘MSSONY’ folder.

Just a thought.. is it possible to send proxy files by email or yousendit.. what would be the best way to do that.. any idea of their file size.. from 50 mbps UDF footage. . per say 10 mins of footage..

    thanks again

yes, it’s possible. the proxies are very small. an hour of Proxy would be less than 1 GB. a 10 second clips is about 3 MB. make sure you maintain the MSSONY folder structure when copying/sending.
