Proxy editing
I was under the impression that Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 had proxy editing capabilities. Strangely I cant seem to find ANY documentation on how I would convert my HD media into some form of a proxy version.
Am I looking at having to purchase a 3rd party plugin in order to accomplish this, or am I missing something in my preferences?

Premiere Pro does not have this feature.

HDV file sizes are the same as DV so no real need to use proxies. Or, are you talking about a much higher data rate?

I am working with uncompressed 720p HD video. Even with a pretty fast machine, I have to half size the video to make it run closer to realtime.
This isn’t an instance where I can “Capture” lower quality video and then uprez later. What I have to work with IS the uncompressed stuff.
Being able to work with a proxy of the full rez video would make things a lot more streamlined.
Since premiere cant do this “normally” could anyone suggest another work around?

You might look at Raylight which has a built-in proxy that works with Premiere.
It would allow you to work with a full-res (high quality but compressed) 1920 x 1080 frame and a built-in proxy that is either 1/2 resolution (at full data rate) or 1/4 resolution at 1/5 data rate. The 1/5 data rate option, called Raylight Red, is lower than DV data rate so almost any media workstation can do it. Switching from the proxy to the full res version is a one-button operation.
