Proxies when Full Res doesn’t exist
I want to do the opposite of what most tutorials and documentation describe. Beginning with a low-res version of my images (3D renderings in this case) where the full resolution images don’t yet exist, I want to import, transform, and animate the low-res in AE, then later move to the full-res, automatically maintaining all my transforms. Can proxies do this? If so, what’s the workflow? Thanks in advance.

Create (import) a placeholder with the resolution and specs of your final render via File > Import > Placeholder.
Right-click it in the project panel and choose Set Proxy > File… (or press Ctrl+Alt+P on a PC, Cmd+Opt+P on a Mac). Choose your low-res file.
When you have final assets, right-click in the project panel and choose Replace Footage > File (or press Ctrl+H on a PC, Cmd+H on a Mac).
Finally, disable or remove the proxy.
