I will be uploading a project to YouTube soon, client wants it available in 720p and 480 via the drop-down menus on the site. Best available HD quality. The site itself doesn’t give a whole lotta info prior to beginning the process.

I am cutting this in FCP using ProRes.
Any suggestions as to the best output specs to submit to YouTube, so their compression codecs don’t crunch the heck out of it?

    Thx!

You just upload it, YouTube does the rest. It will automatically create the multiple resolutions of the file. I believe they accept up to a 2GB file.

I normally export a self-contained mov from FCP. Then make the export copies from this.
The highest possible bit rate H264 is fine for youtube. If it’s a 720p file you send them, you will have the 480p and 720p options by default when youtube is done converting.
