i hear ya cluckin big chicken!!! 🙂

i think its a mistake for apple to preach “there can be only one!” since most producers dont go “oh lets use that new company ‘gottalottabluescreen?” since they all have apple computers!”

its rarely about the gear, and its always about the people, and if ILM uses PCs, macs, or stone knives and bearskins it does not matter. what matters it that they can do the job and do it well.

adobe sees that. but then thats probabaly cuz adobe doenst make computers.

Exactly Danny. If Apple were making the wrong decisions then you’d expect to see them losing market share not gaining it at a rapid rate.

I’d expect we’ll see a Windows version of ProRes right around the same time as the resurrection of FCP as a Windows version. i.e. We won’t.

This isn’t just a Windows issue. A graphic artist we use a lot works on After Effects on a Mac but doesn’t have (or want) Final Cut on his machine.

It has cost my company time (and thus money) because we couldn’t send him the native DVCProHD files for several projects.

Avid and Media 100 in the past have provided “read-only” versions of their codecs. It would really suck if Apple didn’t at least provide that for ProRes.

My understanding was that you had to buy the dvcpro50 or dvcprohd codec if you want it on a PC, but that it was free with mac. I think its a quicktime component, so you can get it anytime.

    am i wrong?

p.s what graphic artist worth their weight wouldn’t want FC studio on their Mac!!?? He sounds a bit suspect to me… ;-)”

Why would they? A lot of DVD Authoring folks don’t want FCP Studio either but if they want DVD Studio Pro, they have to buy the entire Studio package. I actually prefer Adobe’s model of still being able to purchase apps individually.
