I have a project that is shot on a panasonic HVX200
that shoots DVCPRO HD and a Canon 1D MARK IV
that shoots h.264 files, I am editing in FCP and using
log and transfer to import the files. Panasonic has a plug in that transfers to DVCPRO HD and Canon has a plug in that transfers to all the prores formats. my question is can i work with both of these formats on the same timeline to edit?

The number one issue whenever mixing different video types is framerates, which you have not mentioned in yur post. The cameras you mentioned are each capable of several different framerates, and the Pany can shoot both interlaced and progressive. Without these precise details no one can really give you a precise answer.

Have you tried it? No harm in trying, just set your sequence settings first for the hd720p60 and do not let fc auto conform when you drop the canon in. I have been telling our students to use 1 seq setting and use both flavors and I have yet to hear about the need to render preview. Even when the pro res is 1920 and the p2 is 1280.
