When I used to have my master sequences in XDCAM HD422 25p i created the rolling end credits in a new 50i timeline, and then exported this into a 25p movie clip, inserted in my master sequence. I then got no trouble with the end credits looking like crap.

Now that I just recently changed my master sequences into Apple ProRes HQ (from Color) I couldnt to this anymore. Why, I couldnt seem to figure out. Although, I tried to change the whole sequence into Apple ProRes wihtouth the HQ, and then it worked all fine. How come?

What are the differences between ProRes and ProRes HQ? I thought it was only higher bitrate in HQ?

What should I do when I want to make rolling End Credits in a ProRes HQ 25p timeline?

Yep, that’s pretty much it. They’re both 10bit codecs, one has a higher bit rate and HQ really is recommended for work that is over 1080. We run regular ProRes for all our work as we have gotten some issues with HQ both in captures and renders when we tried it for 720p or 1080i.

Walter, could you clarify just a little? Are you saying 2K is the floor for HQ or just 1080p?

    if I may,
its a utilization of bandwidth vs. need vs. reality

Its actually hard to get real 10bit content from most HD sources, since the vast majority of them only record at 8bits so the advantages of a higher bit rate codec need to be gauged against the original master.

working at 2K has been the bench mark for the highend guys, since the needs for 2K, Dual Link, RGB, are all about the same when it comes to quality of the original masters most of which here need to stay 10bit or greater in Post.

Most people will not be able to tell the difference between the Standard and HQ versions of ProRes, however your computer will. So unless you are capturing direct from a camera or something like HDCam SR, the standard version of ProRes should work quite well.
