  • ProRes timing problem on capture

I did some captures w/ the ProRes 422 (HQ) at 720p 59.94 Hz and when I load them into the viewer the audio plays back at the correct speed, but the video is double speed and half way through the clip when the footage runs out and the rest is just black while the audio finishes for the second half. I had my timeline set to the same settings but at 29.97. I don’t know why that would affect the capture though.

Also, if anyone knows of a way to hack log and capture so that I can capture ProRes HQ 720p at 29.97, I would love to know how.

    How are you capturing?

Well, the video isn’t exactly double speed, it varies per clip somewhere between double and triple speed. So in the browser, each clip has the exact same video and audio settings for everything except for the data rate which is 14.4 MB/sec (or close) for half the clips, and the others are random like 17.4 MB/sec, 12.2 MB/sec, 8.1 MB/sec.

I’m converting component video to SDI w/ an AJA HD10A, and then bringing that in via a Kona 2 w/ the Version 4.0 upgrade.

720P is 60fps, unless your using an HDV codec where it can be 30fps or 24fps.

uncompressed 720P is 60fps though, and since Pro-Res is a lossy version of uncompressed my guess is, it must conform 720P to 60fps.

[Saddler] “I’m converting component video to SDI w/ an AJA HD10A”

and what’s hooked up the HD10A? A Camera? A deck?

Actually an Xbox 360 dev kit. I’ve been using this setup for a couple of years without issues, so it must be something to do w/ ProRes. In the past I was using DVCPROHD and uncompressed.

Yeah, I know that. But, I’m working with footage from an Xbox 360 game which is capped at 1280×720 29.97 Hz rendering, so I’d prefer to edit at that frame rate so that I can get more out of my RT Extreme when editing and color correcting.

Oh, and I did capture w/ ProRes at 59.94. I’ve been doing this with my current setup for a couple of years using DVCPROHD and uncompressed and not had any problems like this.

    Sorry, more questions.

You’ve been capturing @ 29.97 dvcPro HD and uncompressed?

Did you try modifying the preset? I don’t see how the xbox plays stuff out 2 720p30, nothing would understand it. The 720p spec on all tv sets calls for 720p60.

No, no. I’ve been capturing at 59.94. But, I’d prefer to capture at 29.97 if possible. The game renders at 29.97 and doubles each frame to meet 59.94 specs. So if I could capture at 29.97 I’d have half the data to work w/ since it’s useless data to me anyway.
