  ProRes SD or Tape deck….

  Hello,

  We have a shortfilm festival coming up soon and I would like to capture all DV and Digibeta Tapes to a new Intel Mac with Aja Kona3 using Apple ProRes codec and playback from the mac.

  Some are sceptical to the ProRes compression….so I need to find out if it is safe to use the ProRes for digibeta quality.

  Digibeta quality…
  Is the ProRes SD as good as uncompressed?
  Is it safe to use the ProRes codec as the screening quality in the cinema? (we can’t afford lawsuit from angry directors..)
  Is playback from the Digibeta Player better than ProRes SD ?

  >> ProRes422 is ‘visually lossless’. Which basically means you can’t see any difference when using the HQ (10 bit) codec << Is the compression visually lossless....? Could a director of a film "see" that his film is compressed with ProRes ? Could someone tell the difference if the film was played back (SDI) from the digibeta deck or from a mac (Aja uncompressed or Apple ProRes) What is the best way to get "100%" digibeta quality playback: tape playback, Aja Uncompressed or Apple ProRes ?
