PRORES question
Hi Everyone,
I have just started using the P2 format and have been using Log and Transfer to transcode my rushes to its native DVCPRO50 format.
I would like to start converting my rushes to a PRORES format. Can I do this in the log and transfer process (instead of converting to native DVCPRO50) or do I have to transcode again using compressor?
I basically would only like to do one transcode to save time on a large project I have coming up soon.

But, may I ask you why do you want to do so?

I am working in a team and prores is part of their workflow.
How would I go about doing this please?

In Log and Transfer you can change the codec over to ProRes I believe for DVCPro material. I have not done this myself, but if you look at the preferences in the upper right of the L&T window (I think that’s where it is, I’m not in front of a system right now) if ProRes is available as a codec to ingest with, you’ll see it there.

Yeah, I think with DVCPro and DVCPro HD you have to bring it in as the native codec. Again, I’m not in front of a system right now.
The good news is that you can drop the footage directly into a ProRes timeline and it will edit just fine. It’ll need to render before output, but it will edit just fine, especially if you’re in FCP 7. So don’t absolutely HAVE to convert to ProRes before editing if you don’t want to.

I agree with Walter.
If the footage will be re-rendered, you waist a generation.
However if you want to do it and you are unable to do it when L&T, you can do it with Media Manager in FC, or with MPGStreamClip
