    Hello.

Apologies of this is the wrong forum. Pointing me to the correct forum would be welcome.

We are oceanographers who use a KiPro unit to record a camera mounted on a remotely operated submersible. Digital data
from a variety of oceanographic sensors are recorded simultaneously. We’d like to offer our users the ability to view the video
while being shown time and data from these sensors. Simple and cheap is important. Avoiding steps like format conversion
or creating new annotated video with Final Cut Pro is also important.

One desireable answer would be the creation of a subtitle file (.srt format?) with sensor data that is merged with the video while
being played on a computer of unspecified OS using QuickTime, mplayer, vlc. But I haven’t been able to find the magic combination
of softwares to make this happen. QT 10 (X) will play back the KiPro file (ProRes 422LT or ProRes 422) but won’t display time code. QT 7
will display both video and time code, but won’t make use of an srt file. vlc won’t play ProRes. mplayer doesn’t currently support
ProRes playback on a 64 bit machine. Conversion of the ProRes to a QuickTime format using QT7 Pro appears to drop time code
info (we don’t have time to do this routinely anyway).

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance
