  • ProRes NTSC – 8-bit or 10-bit???

Posted by Sean Oneil on May 30, 2007 at 8:46 pm

I noticed the Easy Setup for Blackmagic ProRes NTSC is 8-bit, not 10-bit.

I changed the digitizer to 10-bit and my test file size was identical to when it was 8-bit.

Is ProRes recording 8 or 10 bit? I thought you could pick either or.

I just did some reading in the documentation. It appears ProRes is a 10-bit codec.

So it appears you guys made a mistake when creating the Easy Setup for NTSC.

What the hell? I just noticed that all the ProRes Easy Setups, including HD, are all 8-bit. Surely that can’t be right.
