Maybe someone has experienced this or can help me understand the problem:

I’ve finished an SD edit in 29.97 ProRes HQ from all the same, good Digital Betacam source footage. The sequence looks and plays fine with the render bar showing the green/preview status on all areas except the minor effects that show red that I need to render. Once full render is complete and all preview/effects are rendered, the entire video “breathes” – like a constant frame to frame strobing. I could have chosen render only needs render, but I figured a full render wouldn’t cause a problem across the whole sequence. I was able to output just fine by applying an inactive filter to “un-render” the sequence back to preview status, but still can’t figure out why full render caused this effect.

I’m using a brand new Kona 3 MacPro if anyone wonders what my setup is.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Are your sequence settings the same? Frame rate match? I mean, if your sequence settings matched your clip settings exactly, then you would not require a render at all! So the fact that just a basic clip in the timeline has a render bar over it, indicates that something in the clip settings doesn’t match the sequence settings.

    Do they match? EXACTLY.

    Thanks Shane.
    Everything matches – EXACTLY.
Once I’m done with the final edit, I need to adjust the speed of the entire sequence. That is the first appearance of the green render bar. At that point, playback is fine. When I go from this state to a fully rendered state is when the strobing is introduced. Thus, I return to the green render state in order to complete my output to tape.

Maybe that sheds more light on the issue. Necessary speed changes are somehow compromising the playback of the sequence?

Why do you adjust the speed of the entire sequence? And when it isn’t rendered, you aren’t full quality…

When not fully rendered, I know I’m not full quality. At the time it was all I could use to meet the deadline. (End result being a DVD, therefore green render playback cut it this time.)

I had to adjust the speed of the main clip in the sequence to compress the film for time – slightly shorter TRT and a slightly faster pace that the director was looking for. Then of course adjust the audio for pitch, etc. adjustments.
