ProRes for DV footage?
Posted by Zeke Meginsky on May 18, 2011 at 2:50 pmIs it worth it to capture footage using one of the ProRes codecs for regular mini-DV footage? Will it make it look noticably better at all?

May 18, 2011 at 3:01 pmNo! However, when you’re done editing, if you change the compressor in Sequence>>Settings to ProRes, and re-render the timeline, your graphics and text will be rendered 10-bit 422 rather than with DV compression, and they will be considerably better.

May 18, 2011 at 3:09 pmOh okay! Thanks a lot. I’ll do that.
So the DV codec is really the best one to use for regular DV footage then?

Yes! Think of it as Garbage In Garbage Out. You can’t make what is worse better.
