Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy .prores Files

    Hello all

I have been sent some rushes and amongst the .movs are also .prores, .pcm and xml files. I was just wondering how I could have a look at the .prores files – I can’t seem to open them in QT or FCP.

Any help would be much appreciated

    Thanks

    Phil

Prores is native to apple. If you can’t bring them into FCP, then something is really wrong with them.

What happens when you just double click the file @ the finder level?

    Hi Chris
The files are actually .prores files, ie “filename.prores”. The Mac sees it as a UNIX file, as it does when it doesn’t recognise the file type. It seems that its the output from broadcast system with the audio and video as separate streams, not in a .mov container, if you see what I mean. I’m trying to get in contact with the guy who sent it to me but just wondered if there was a simple solution.

Did you ever figure out how to handle these files? I’m dealing with the same issue.

Sorry, don’t remember if I found a solution for this or not.

.prores for a file extension is new to me. Prores is the codec. They should be .MOV files.

    What did your files from?
