Updated to 2014.1 this morning, and just opened a project that had a mix of media, including some ProRes files from a BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera. All of the ProRes files are now offline, and when I attempt to relink, I get – “The importer reported a generic error.”

I tried to relink to a couple of the files on my backup drive, and those relink. So, I’m copying the backup versions over to the RAID.

I tried creating a new project, and the ‘offline’ ProRes files import with no problem, so it’s not an issue of all of the files mysteriously going corrupt.

Apparently, something corrupted in that project, and since it happened immediately after the 2014.1 update, I’m inclined to suspect that.

OK, just located another offline file, not a ProRes file, but a stock MOV encoded to QT. So that made me wonder if it’s an ‘Adobe QT32 Server.exe’ problem. Sure enough, ‘Adobe QT32 Server.exe’ isn’t running when I start open that project, but when I start a new project and import some ProRes files, ‘Adobe QT32 Server.exe’ starts.

I can relink the clips to the files on the backup drive, but when I copy the backup versions over to my RAID, they cannot be relinked or imported into this project. The can be imported into a new project, though.

Sorry about that Steve. I’ll look into the issue, sorry you’re having trouble.

In general, I would not update any projects without backing that project up with a duplicate (that way, you can always open the project in the original version). Our agents report that there is sometimes unexpected behavior like this when customers update project files.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

Luckily, 2014.1 comes with native Cineform encoding, so I was able to transcode the files to that, and then link those files with the offline clips, so I’m working again.

Still, it needs to be noted. Since both of the codecs involved are QT Server specific, I’d think something went haywire with that process. However, it seems that I am the only one suffering the issue…again.

Actually, you’re not. I see a few people with QT based clips going off line. I’m investigating.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

I’m having a very similar issue. When I try to import a ProRes file into a project I get the spinning beach ball and have to force quit Premiere. I have not run the latest updates yet. I am running v.8.0.1

I tried updating itunes as someone in another thread suggested
as well as updating the pro apps codecs (shown in os x updates)

still showing pro res files offline.

Read on another thread that renaming the prores file then reconnecting
media seems to work and it does…but that would be painful on a huge project.

I just changed a dash in the file name to an underscore and also deleted the cache file associated
    right next to it.

    Then it worked.

Kevin, where are we at on a fix for this?

My mac with Kona3G has this problem, but not my mac with Black magic interface, if that helps at all.
