ProRes file from Atomos
Posted by Jerry Vogt on November 22, 2011 at 11:25 pmI recently purchased the Adobe bundle for a PC but have not installed it yet. Before I purchase the Atomos Samurai which records from the SDI output to a hard drive in the prores file format, do the Adobe products (Premiere and AE) accept prores?
Thanks,

November 23, 2011 at 12:59 amAdobe CS5 on Mac will playback and encode Prores IF you have FCP/FCPX/ New Motion/New Compressor installed on your machine
Adobe CS5 on a PC can ONLY playback Prores IF you download the codecs from Apple and install them.

November 23, 2011 at 3:02 pmHi Jerry,
On the PC, you shouldn’t have to “do” anything – as long as QuickTime is installed, ProRes is automatically supported. Please note that Premiere has had an issue with not accepting ProRes files that have 4-channel audio. This was rectified with a recent Premiere update

November 23, 2011 at 3:27 pmThanks Jeff,
That was good news. Now I can start by finding a PC for my new Adobe software. -

November 23, 2011 at 5:31 pmJust to clarify Tom’s comment, If you have any one of those programs on a Mac (I know you are on Windows) you will get the ProRes codecs. Compressor 4 and Motion 5 are only 49.95. Motion is the more updated of the two from the previous version 4. This would be for Mac users of Premiere Pro who never got FCP.
