“PRORES 422 in QUICKTIME” For Dummies
HI there.
Sorry, I’m one one those dudes asking the same eternal questions people ask… This one is about color loss between FCP and QT working with Prores 422 codec… More than anything, my post is meant to ask: “DID I REALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT I READ ?”
-My machine is a 2.2 Ghz Intel Core i7 Laptop, with its AMD Radeon HD 6750M graphic card.
-I have no External screen. The only one I got is a 5 year old VGA….. so I don’t use it.
-I’m editing a 1h30 diaporama exported initially from Iphoto in Prores 422. My goal is to make various outputs: a full def QT file, a Blu-ray DVD compression, SD DVD etc…As you understood i turn crazy because i CAN’T get my QT file read correctly, in any application (mpeg streamclip, QT…). Colors are heavily washed out.
I read a few things here and there, but still don’t know what I should do.
QUESTIONS
1) If I understand well, it looks bad on a mac, but it’s normal, right? It doesn’t mean that the export is bad in itself, it is just a matter of display??? If that’s it, at least it gives me a little peace.
2) Now, if i want to play that QT movie i exported from FCP on a flat screen via an HDMI portable drive, will it display OK? (asuming the screen is correctly setup).
3) If I want to make a dvd compression in Compressor, doing a few color adjustments as I always do… it means I cant do it right? Because Compressor will show me that deceptive washed out image.
Did I understand well the issue?
Isn’t there ANY way for people in my case (I.E “broke”), to SEE the actual colors of the file created in FCP?
If no… how much would it cost me to have a decent display solution? Is it still workable with that laptop? (a 17 inches from 2011 series).
Thanks a lot
