    Hi Folks

Just wondering…right now I have my project files, video, audio, graphics and renders all in one folder on an external Lacie d2 drive. Is this considered proper project setup or would you suggest splitting up the files for performance, backup or any other reason?

    Thanks…

Project files should live on your boot drive.
Media should be on your external disk.

In case you external drive fails, you don’t lose EVERYTHING. The project file is gold…that must be protected. I keep mine on my internal, and back them up to an external, so in case one drive fails, you have your project backed up.

Media can always be recaptured, but rebuilding an edit takes a looooong time.

Its also a good idea to put your Autosave Vault on a different drive than your boot drive (if thats where you are storing your project)…this way if your boot drive fails, you dont lose your autosave vault. I also backup my current project to .Mac every night.
