    Hi everyone,

I had a question concerning a Promise SATA Controller advice. First, I was told that Avid is not compatible with Promise SATA controllers. Did he mean on-board Promise controllers or both on-board and PCI card controllers? I’m looking at building a dual Xeon machine with the Asus NCT-D motherboard and it doesn’t have neither the Promise nor the ICH5R chipset. Therefore I need to purchase a seperate SATA RAID controller. My choices are slim since I will be installing Seagate SATA NCQ drives, therefore the controller that I must get has to understand NCQ. The one I could get for approx. $120 CDN is a Promise controller card.

Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    1. Go to a reseller
    2. Buy an Avid to your specs (within the limits of a ‘legal’ machine)
    3. Remind yourself the extra money you are spending up front is money you won’t nickel and dime yourself later
    4. Have a frosty mug and edit on your zippy machine that works.

On board Promise SATA controllers DO NOT work. Period. I’ve heard, though have not personally confirmed that Promise SATA-controller add-on PCI cards DO NOT work as well.

Either find another motherboard, or follow Jon’s advice.
