Projector speed when recording 8mm
I thought I read somewhere (can’t find it now) that if you are using a video camera to record 8mm from a projector that you should either speed up or slow down the projector to help reduce the flicker. In vegas you would either speed up or slow down the event to bring the video back to original speed. Does this make any sense to anyone out there? If so any suggestions would be much appreciated.

8mm movie projectors nomally projected at 16-18 fps. Since NTSC video records at 29.? fps, they are not synched. This creates the flickering. There are projectors out there with multibladed gates that help reduce this problem. Or you can use what I do. A specially constructed piece of equipment called a workprinter that takes each frame of the film and has it recorded by a 3CCD recorder. This records about 8fps. These individual frames are send to a computer file (basically a captured movie) But if this file is played back at NTSC it would be played at 29.? fps so would appear as fast forward. So the file is sent to a program (Cinecap) that takes the file and converts it quite nicely to 16, 18 or 24 fps (your choice)This totally eliminates flickering and any ‘hotspots’ that projecting the film creates. I do not see how you could slow the film down accurately with Vegas.
