Shot a clip in Progressive and there is an image projected on a wall in the scene. The projection is flickering in the shot is there a filter to reduce just the flicker of the projection without affecting the rest of the clip?

    Thanks

I would roto-mask the projection and treat the screen separate from the rest of the frame. I remember a discussion about an aftereffects plug-in or recipe for automatically controlling a steady-frequency brightness change like this, but I don;t recall where to find that info anymore: a request on the COW’s AE forum might jog it loose.

In FCP, I might use the 3-way color corrector’s clamping functions to force the brightness into a super-narrow corridor of values, perhaps add some video smear to it, or maybe Color has something more appropriate to this.

Do post back with the working answer when you find it: others may find it useful some day.

The FCP De-Interlace filter has a flicker-filter selection, try that.

if the image is locked off, with no fg objects in front of the screen,
then a simple garbage matter will isolate the screen.

otherwise you might be able to use a luminance key.

    flicker:
    v hard to fix.
AE might have better tools, as suggested.

interesting suggestion re “smearing” the frames.
one of the FCP time-based filters may do that.
if Joe’s FIlters are still around, he had a “Time Smear” (not what he called it)
it superimposes adjacent frames to reduce video noise.
    obviously it messes with movement.

This has come up before and this thread has a link to a plugin from the Foundry that might be worth the 15 day free trial

and this plugin gets recommended too
