Need advice on how best to show a video project.

This project will later be burned to a DVD..BUT…for showing this vid on a 10’x14′ projection screen using a SD projector (but 5200 lumens) what is the best way way to feed the signal to the projector for the highest quality picture possible?

The projector itself is SD and the footage was shot in SD albiet in Widescreen.

Should I run it out of a computer or is there some way I can avoid the compression inherent with using a DVD?

Also, to burn to a DVD do you recommend the built-in Adobe media encoder in PPro CS3, or should I invest in a better encoder?

Thanks in advance for any help.

What are the inputs on the projector? What is the rated resolution of the projector? If it has HDMI, you could use (purchase) one of the new Western Digital HD Media Players($100). This great little device plays from a portable hard drive, pen drive, etc. via USB port with exceptional quality. It also has composite AV out. You could also play the DVD out from the HDMI port of your DVD player, or from the Component out if the projector has Component in. Compare the overall quality to that of a laptop out (preferably with DVI out). Good luck!

You certainly have a lot of options. A 5200 Lumens projector should have all the most common connections, including component, VGA and DVI.

HDMI might be there, but it’s a consumer connection, and many professional projectors don’t carry it. So, if you are playing of a DVD player, component will be just fine (I’m guess you are running audio to a PA system).

I find that a DVD played off a laptop will look slightly better as long as you are matching the projector’s native resolution (likely 1024×768 at this brightness) but that also means dealing with all the uncertainties that come with it, including having a player that will play smoothly and without menu bars, etc.

My second piece of advice would be burning a second DVD with a higher black level.

I prefer to play a miniDV tape with a camera or a deck.
    (less compression as from DVD)
