Projected video on smoke
Howdy, does anyone know of a way to create the effect of a moving image projected on smoke or fog in After Effects?

try playing around with the displacement map effect and try using fractal noise on another layer as the displacement map — note you’ll need to pre-compose the layer with fractal noise on it and choose to ‘move all attributes’
you might also try using that same fractal noise pre-comp as a track matte, and maybe play with the blending modes.
