Project specific scratch disks
Posted by Hal Sloane on September 29, 2005 at 4:14 pmHi,
Is there a way or is Apple planning on updating FCP so that you can make scratch disk settins specific to each project? Anyone out there have suggestions for handling media while working on multiple projects?
Thanks,
Hal

If you are capturing from within your project the media should be automatically captured into a job specific sub-directory inside the larger directory containing your scrtach disk. If not, then you’ve missed something in setup.

Why should they? You can change your capture scratch at any time simply by opening the “System Preferences” menu. If you want to change it for each project, Apple is not actually stopping you. I can see no disadvantage to the way FCP handles media & scratch disks.

Log & capture your tapes carefully, & make sure you input correct Reel names.

September 29, 2005 at 8:53 pmHey Hal, I think this was a huge feature request that did NOT make it into FCP 5. This and keeping the project settings so that when the project opens up you don’t have to reset your easy set up (if you’re bouncing from an HD to a DV project let’s say). There has to be a good reason that apple doesn’t do this, but I don’t know it.
For now you are stuck with changing the prefs every time you switch scratch disks.
