project size versus load times….
at what point do projects take a long time to open? i have a 75mb project that takes a REAL long time to open….have also had a 140mb project that seemed to take forever to open as well….these were both HD projects with timelines in the 1hour to 90 minute length….they are final sequences to output to tape, so we would rather not split them up…FCP should be able to output an hour long HD show shouldn’t it?
i have not tried optimizing the system yet, but it looks like i have to, since i opened the project before writing this post, and it is still at 26%

i trashed prefs….seems to lock around 14%, then goes to about 26%….sits there awhile, throws up not responding…..pinwheels a little bit….and i’m still waiting…now up to 33%…hasn’t thrown not responding yet since ref trash though….fingers crossed….
it’s also crashing when trying to output to tape through ETT tool….hopefully the prefs did the trick…
spoke too soon…CPU is at 100%, now not responding at 33%….letting it sit for a few more minutes
up to 41% now, the sus[ense is killing me…

seems like crossing the 50 MB marker is where things get out of whack. Do you multiple sequences in your project file? You may want to try duplicating the project file and making a master project and strip that down to the barebones. For my ETT (although this is kind of a thing of the past for me) I normally export as self contained movie with current setting so I can make an ETT project with slates and tones and the solid movie.

i am considering the export QT method…IF I can get into it, lol….i refreshed everything with ONYX, we’ll see how that fares….
50MB that sucks, lol…..

50MB is a pretty big FCP file.
how many sequences do you have in the project file.

i believe only 2, they are an hour each….texted and textless….so if 50 is big…the project is actually 72, and the other project we have is 147….
but there are a gazillion clips……
and the 147 is multiclip (9 cameras 90 minutes each)…that was solved with the new project copy sequence thing
