[Escojido Machado] ” Also, if someone could point me to some literature or threads to help me understand deinterlace and field order.”
There is really nothing that you need to understand because Vegas Pro has templates for all of these formats and you should simply use the templates and don’t change anything. Especially don’t change the Deinterlace method from the default setting of Blend Fields unless you have very fast motion that shows a lot of interlace tearing in which case you can change it to Interpolate Fields. Never, every, never set it to None unless you are using your own deinterlace plug-in and want to override Vegas’s default behavior (read: only use None if you are absolutely positive that you know what you are doing and are prepared to handle deinterlacing some other way!)
BTW the deinterlace method DOES NOT by itself deinterlace your footage. It simply instructs Vegas which method to use SHOULD it have to deinterlace the footage for any reason. Some people say that you can set it to None if you are working totally with progressive footage and while this is true… it is totally unnecessary since Vegas will never need to deinterlace the footage and will simply not use the setting.
Here are the answers to your questions:
1. If I shoot in non-progressive, I assume that I am shooting in 60i. Project settings should be
Template: HDV 1080-60i (1440×1080, 29.970 fps)
Field Order: Upper field first
Deinterlaced method: Blend fields
2. If I shoot progressive 24 p
Template: HDV 1080-24p (1440×1080, 23.976 fps)
Field Order: None (progressive)
Deinterlaced method: Blend fields
3. If I shoot progressive 30 p
Template: HDV 1080-60i (1440×1080, 29.970 fps)
Field Order: None (progressive)
Deinterlaced method: Blend fields
When rendering,to mpeg 2
For what purpose? Just use the render templates that are available and don’t change anything about them. If you are making a DVD use the MPEG2 template DVD Architect NTSC Widescreen video stream and render your audio as Dolby Digital AC3.
