    hi ppl

ok when setting up a new project in the custom settings iam confronted with a few different options as listed in the subject of this post^.

when i use different settings (including the standard settings aswell as custom) i have different sized black borders around my video. when i then use this video in AE the effects apply not only to the video but to the black border surrounding the video, which looks silly.

question is, do i only see this black border on a rendered project because im viewing it on a pc monitor? would i not see the border if i played it on a PAL tv (having used pal settings on my project of course)?

thing is i dont want these black borders but all the settings available seem to have them. my original captured footage has no border and when maximised it covers the whole monitor screen to the very edges. This is what i want from my rendered project, NOT damn borders?!?!

also i go to project settings once ive set up my new project and i cant seem to change the original settings i had chosen ie. D1/DV PAl (1.067) or D4/D16 standard (0.948).

ok awaitng your replies to what is probably a very simple question to non newbs! THX!

Normal 4×3 DV PAL uses 1.067 aspect ratio using a frame size of 720×576 rectangular pixels that are wider than they are tall. Any material (eg graphics) in square pixels should be at 768×576.

Normal 4×3 NTSC DV uses 0.9 aspect ratio with rectangular pixels that are taller than they are wide at a frame size of 720×480.

D4 is for material filmed through an anamorphic lens.

https://beum.com.ne.kr/premiere/Help.htm might be helpful about formats.

PhotoShop CS allows you to work in non-square pixel space, but earlier versions only understand square pixels and you will get geometric distortion if you don’t follow the above guidance on choice of frame size.

If you set both the Premiere project and the AE project the same values for frame size, you should not get a black border when you swap material between the two applications.

    ok

in premiere i import my captured footage (that has no border) and no matter what the setting i have a black border. however i have found this https://www.freeimagebrowser.com/forum/t1461-exporting-movies-with-adobe-premiere-pro.html which describes how to export a movie without borders for a pc monitor.

so my question is when if i kept my settings at D1/DV PAL (1.067) with frame size 720 x 576 which has black borders in premiere pro monitor and after exporting it. would these borders disappear when played on a PAL tv?

If your source material is from a DV camera and you are using a matching Premiere preset, then the output to tape will be shown at full frame on a TV.

If you view footage from some cameras on a computer so you can see right to the edges of the frame, then maybe you will see some black edges. These edges should be hidden behind the bezel on a TV, but you might need to crop them off if you output in a format designed for viewing on a computer.

Have you set the Premiere Pro monitor to ‘fit’?
