“Project Properties” vs “Render As” in Vegas Pro 10
The New Project default setting in Project Properties is “NTSC DVD (720×480)” which is fine for my DVD projects. I just finished a DVD but now I want to upload a high-def version of it to my Vimeo site. Vimeo allows up to 1920×1080 resolution, which is what I used to shoot the video; one camera set at 60i, the other set at 60p (don’t ask why).
The question is, can I re-render the saved project (.veg) with a higher resolution template such as “HDV 1080-60i (HDV MPEG-2 .m2t) even though the project was saved at a lower resolution for DVD?
Second, should I use the Sony AVC/MVC or Main Concept MPEG-2?

Yes you can.
I’m doing this with a series of promo spots right now.
One version (original footage is 1440 x 1080 60i) gets rendered in SD format (720 x 480).
I change the project properties to 1920 x 1080, save the veg file under a different name, and render it as 1920 x 1080.
I render it in MXF format as that’s what the client needs but Sony AVC/MVC should be fine for your needs. -
All you have to do is change the “properties” for your project and render it again. Your original footage never changes so you didn’t destroy anything.

I’ve tried your suggetions with success. A high definition upload of a large video file to a file sharing site such as Vimeo, takes a long time, even with a broadband connection. 1920×1080 files are too large, but 1280×720 seems a satisfactory compromise for speed and quality.
