Do the settings in project properties have anything to do with the final render? If you set the deinterlace in project properties, is that what will render to a dvd if you set it to render MPEG2?

Yes, the project properties do have an effect on the render but it won’t control the render. If you set your project to progressive, it will feed the render step progressive output but if the render is set up to be interlaced, it will convert it back to interlaced footage. Likewise you can set the project to interlaced and the render to progressive and the render step will deinterlace the footage and make it progressive. In the end, you get whatever properties the render is set to.

    John,
I know that is correct but it makes me wonder (stupid me) what difference does it make then as to what you set the project properties at.

    Loss of quality?

I think I understand now. If I set my project properties to deinterlace, they should remain there when I render to MPEG2 DVD unless I set it to interlace.

“…what difference does it make then as to what you set the project properties at.”

As I recall, it helps the timeline to play back smoother.
Drop a clip on the timeline but set the project properties to something different and see how it responds.
Now match the source file and you should see a difference.

If you set tha project property to a HD template, and render as DVD, you will have black bars.

If you are to use pan/crop “match output…”, project property must be set to “output”.

Project property 8-bit/32-bit/64-bit will not be changed when rendering. But DVD 8-bit rendering will change the color from what you see on a PC monitor.
