I have a FCP project which I did some clean-up on this morning–deleting render files, moving a total of 40GB worth of footage around and now the Mac Pro I have always used for this project will not get past the 25% mark on the “Reading project” window at the beginning of opening the project. I took the project to another Mac Pro and it opened quick and no problems.

I attempted to eject all of the drives and open the project that way, nothing. I opened it on another Mac Pro–same settings, just a little newer–and it opened fine. I saved the project on the newer Mac Pro and tried to open it with the original machine and and it still will not get past the 25% mark.

I’ve also tried deleting FCP preferences, repairing preferences, rebooting, reseting PRAM… but nothing seems to be working. Any suggestions on what might be causing this?

It seems like the machine just doesn’t know what to do after a certain point. Or rather it gets confused. Is there some sort of hidden memory it keeps going back to as it attempts to load the project. This is the only FCP project this machine can’t open.

I’m baffled! Thanks for any help!

What happens when you open the project on the other machine, copy-paste all bins and sequences (perhaps not all – just what you need) into a new project, save that and open this new project on the first machine?
