Project names – how to change font size?

I’m thinking it might be time to keep your project names to no more than 25-30 characters.

Any reason why you need more than that?

Personally, I like short and simple. When I import my footage from the camera, and it wants to name a clip something like 20111011162355_A002_C003.mov, I rename all the clips to something short with a serial number attached like Grad11_001.mov.

It’s much easier to manage clips and sequences in the bin I think, with shorter names.

Thanks for the quick response. Good point that I should try to keep the names short. I try as much as I can but I find that I want to make sure I have a record of what program title is, what sequence it is and at a high level what changes have been made. To keep this all readable/understandable for me (and anyone else) now and in the future, I prefer to minimize the amount of abbreviations. However it sounds like that may not be possible, if I want to view the whole title in the project window.

It does seem odd. I have FCP X open on an LED Cinema display and yet it seems like only 10% of the space is allocated to the Project name and the rest of the 90% to a film strip of the project.

I suggest sending Apple feedback.

I have a trick for that. I create a title at the top of the clip, like a slate. You can place into that as much info as you want about program titles, version number, and every little change you made. I generally make this one or two frames and make it the first frame of the sequence. This gives anyone who needs to watch and approve of it the same information.

Make a new version of your sequence, and change the text in the first frame.

Don’t want to export it in the clip, and you can just turn it off, keeping it at the top of the sequence.

This still gives you 25 or so characters to label your timeline. You won’t need to abbreviate too much.

This works for me.

I agree. I sent feedback on this. I want to be able to see the entire project name in the project library.
