  • Project Media Window – Details View

Hi guys, I have a few quick questions about the project media window:

When I have sub-clips in the project media window sorted by Details, I only want to show a few categories. Is there a quicker way to add or remove categories than right clicking on the headers > view > ticking/unticking one then doing it all over again each time?

Similarly, what are the two options, UMID and stream chase and why can’t I delete it from the details view option in project media?

Do you also know if I can delete the quick tabs from just underneath the project media window so as I can see more of my sub-clips?

    Thank you! 🙂

I’d like to know this, too… Someone told me it’s impossible to get Windows7 to default to “List” instead of “icons” (thanks, Microsoft, but I already know that my folder with five hundred video files contains nothing but video files), throughout the file system, so I find myself changing this constantly; then, you boot and you’re doing it all over again…

I can answer one of your questions and suggest a work around for another. I haven’t checked out UMID and Streamchase though.

Firstly, you can turn off the window below your project media files by selecting the ‘Views’ button (blue and white hatching) in your project media window and deselecting ‘Media Tags. This is assuming too that you have not used the smart media facility to tag your media yourself.

The work around for showing and hiding the columns in your project media window is to go through the process of identifying which columns you want to view and when you have managed this then ‘save’ that particular layout by going to ‘View’ in the main window, selecting ‘Window Layouts’ and ‘save as’. Name it as something meaningful. If you also want to work using a different set of columns, repeat the above steps but this time save it as a different layout.

This works but to be honest, I find sticking to one type of columns display causes far less confusion and should be easily accommodated by anyone spending a bit of time editing.

    Good luck.

Thanks for you help Phil. Much appreciated.

One more question, I know if you press tab you can choose whether to take both the audio and video, or just the audio or video from the trimmer to the timeline. I can’t seem to get this to work for creating a sub-clip though. I.e. is is possible to create a sub-cllip with just the audio or video from the trimmer?

Also, currently when I press enter in my project media, it automatically adds the clip to my timeline. Do you know how to stop this, as it becomes annoying when I want to pause my auto preview in the project media. Instead of pausing, it adds the video to the timeline haha.

    Thanks again!
