project management tips needed
hi guys, just wondering if anyone has any tips for working with large file sizes etc.
ive been working in after effects for 14 years now but i think ive gotten stuck into some routines from years ago that may be slowing me down.
basically i just worked on a huge projection mapping job, around 6k resolution. my ae project contained multiple layered sequences from c4d (png sequences) plus some pre-rendered comps from after effects which i susally render prores.if i need alpha i render prores 4444 which still tend to be quite big files even if theres a lot of black in the frame. i did a test and rendered prores of this sequence but it still came out at about half the size, which is obviously way better, but is there a better way?
sometimes i have to pass over the project files or the client will ask to upload them but i do not have a good upload connection so file size has to be as low as possible.
i have never really used proxies but im guessing this might be a really good idea.
i work with trapcode particular a lot, recently i had a scene that had a crazy amount of partcles precomped into a scene which slowed me down big time, if people recommend proxies, what codec and format do people recommend? image sequences vs qt.
when it comes to workflow, i tend to do a lot of precomping, vs comps with50 layers+ would love to hear people thoughts on this. i know its a difficulat one to answer as these things are always project dependant. but general tips would be much appreciated.
thanks guys.
