Am recording mov files in 59.94 interlaced, i create a project in 59.94 interlaced in mc8.5 but the timeline appears as 29.97, why is that? is there a way to make it appear as 59.94? i have no problem in progresive mode though.

1080i 59.94 is 59.94 interlaced fields per second. Each frame is two fields, so the frame rate is 29.97.
There is no such thing as 1080i at 59.94 frames per second.
Recent versions of Avid support 1080p 59.94, which is 59.94 frames per second.

If you want 1080 at 60fps…then 1080p60 or 1080p59.94 is what you are looking for. As John said, 59.94i is INTERLACED.

The “i” and the “p” mean IMAGES PER SECOND. Interlaced has two fields per frame, and at 30fps, that’s 60 images, well, “half images” as interlaces is EVEN and ODD lines….that runs at 29.97fps. Progressive is one full frame…so at 60p that’s 60 images, one per frame, running at 59.94fps.

Confusing? yes. People in PAL land don’t suffer like we do. Well…to them 1080i50 is the same as 1080i59.94…that runs at 25fps.
