  • Project files in trash?

Posted by Chris Stevens on June 5, 2009 at 11:17 am

When editing I get a number of project files appearing in my trash. Is this normal?
I have tried rebuilding permissions & trashing prefs – but all to no avail…

I’m guessing you’re talking about the old render files and things like that you’ll find I’m your trash while working on a project.

If so, it’s perfectly normal and just stuff that FCP didn’t need anymore.

Specifically, when you get project files in trash, it is because you have set a certain number of auto saves and once the system has made that number, it puts the excess prior saves into the trash.

Don’t worry, it’s normal with that setting.

They are most likely older autosaved projects that were moved to the trash once the specified number of versions to save was reached.

You can check this in the Final Cut Pro user preferences under the Autosave section, where you can define how often autosave files are generated, and what the maximum number of autosaved versions there should be per project.

These files are like a time machine for your projects. If you mistakenly delete something or screw something up, you can step back to an earlier version of your project by opening an older file in the autosave directory.
