    Hello all,

I have a project that I worked on as recently as Friday, and now it won’t open. I immediately get the helpful “General Error” message whenever I try to open it. It won’t even attempt to load the project or media. I’ve trashed the FCP prefs and it didn’t work.

I’ve tried to open the autosave files, and get the same result. Like I said, I was just working on this project 2 days ago and everything seemed fine.

    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

will other FCP project files open?

Yes, other projects will open. But I found that another HDV project from a few months back won’t open either (same error message). But it’s strange. I’m currently working on a newer HDV project, and it’s opening no problem. I wonder if it’s connected to the HDV material in some way, but I really have no clue what’s going on.

I have had success sometimes by opening the most recent Autosave of a project in some previous versions of FCP 5.

    If you go to:
    System>Users>Documents>Final Cut Pro Documents>Autosave Vault

you will see a bunch of folders of your Autosaved projects. Find the project you are having trouble with and open the most recent autosave of that project (which should be sometime Friday), and try to open it.

If it does open I usually do a Save As and rename the project so I don’t try to re-open the troubled project by mistake at a future date.

    good luck,

    Victor

Thanks for the response, but unfortunately I already tried opening all of my autosaves from this project (see original post).
