I have been having issues opening project files and upon turning to the cow realized it could very well be the overall size of the project file. Low and behold, breaking rthe project up into episodes helped, but I still face project files ranging from 286 mb (opening fine) to 408 mb (haven’t had luck with this one). It seems to me 340 mb is my system’s “breaking point”.

Each smaller project features a single DVCProHD sequence containing about 40 minutes of multicam footage (approximately 9 streams collapsed) and its associated media. The finished product is graphically intensive. I was able to lay graphics on the 1st without issue. The second however is half way layered with graphics and has reached the 340mb plateau. Even if I get graphics in on this one and the other larger project, I’m concerned this issue will persist because I have ENG pieces to insert and one additional cam angle to cut in here and there. My question is how can I possibly cut these file sizes even further. I read about the text issues bloating projects. Do still frames have the same affect? What about number of tracks on the timeline, would that have any effect? In essence, what is the “meat” of a projects, file size? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

“Do still frames have the same ….”

I should clarify that by still frames, I am referring to freeze frames created inside of Final Cut Pro.
