Erm… half second?? What’s your math behind that? ????

Either way, what you’re seeing is 100% correct. FRAMES start at ONE, TIME starts at ZERO. Therefore 9:29 is logically the last frame of 10 seconds.

To be pedantic about this (and I’m sure you know this), it depends on how you have set up your preferences.

If you have Time Display set to Frame Numbering/Starts from Zero, then the timeline will show the first frame as zero.

But you can also set it to Frame Numbering/Starts from 1 and then the timeline will show the first frame as 1 and count up accordingly.

This is critical for some operations so it’s worth pointing out.

Very, and I’m thinking unnecessarily, pedantic, yes. Since if his numbering was set to start from (the non-standard) ZERO, then he would have to have actively changed it himself, in which case I’m guessing the question would not have come up to begin with? ????

But sure… for the record.

I’m just confused that the title said “SOLVED” right from the get go… wha? ????

SOME CLARIFICATION:

1. I am totally brand new to Motion, and did not realize that the 29 in 9:29 referred to frames and not seconds. I therefore interpreted 9:29 to be 9.5 seconds. I also did not understand the disparity between timecode and seconds. I get it now.

2. I marked the query as “solved” at the point I received an answer from the Apple forum. I did not want to bother anyone further, but I did not see any option to delete the original Creative Cow post.

3. Thank you, Simon Ubsdell, for your kind and supportive response. It was very helpful. And even thank you, Robin Kurz, for your infinitely less gracious response. But Robin, if you want to talk about confusing and inscrutable, take a look at the ridiculous markup mash that manifests as your email.
