I’ve always edited projects with studio monitors for an honest mix. Latest project for web playback only. My mix down was fat. Dialog and music under at -23dB. Dialog at +6 with no clipping and distortion when uploaded to Vimeo. Audio sounded the same in my reference monitors.
Producer and camera guy say they can’t hear talent clearly in some clips. Just happened to ask what type speakers are connected to their source….ready for this? They’re listening on their iPad and Mac Book Pro built in 2″ pieces of tin. Is it me or is the web audience listening to audio the same way? I’m dumbfounded that even professionals don’t have monitors for audio. So I went back to the sequence and unplugged the ref monitors to do another mix listening to the inboard pieces of tin….incredible difference. Anybody here experience this craziness? What’s the point anymore?
