I’ve got old projects still sitting on my computer and I don’t want to delete them for fear that I may want to change something about them in the distant or near future.

So what’s the best way to archive them? I’ve got me a 120g external harddrive, but what files do I take, leave, etc? Do I trim the project? Do I take everything but render files?
    I’m not so sure.

I want to be able to take these projects and their info and files, put them somewhere else, and then be able to put them back on my computer in a year, open up the project and have everything there (without rendering is fine), and at the smallest size I can. What are the steps to that?

Use the Project Manager to trim and collect your projects. Do not take the preview files.

I edit dv projects. I keep all my source tapes. I delete from the hard disk anything that can be recaptured easily. I keep all graphics, audio, and “new” video files (files rendered from after effects etc.)

Then in Premiere I do a “Remove unused” so that in a years time, if I need to recapture my source files, I only have to recapture what was on the timeline.

Usually, doing all this gets the amount of data in the project folder small enough to back up onto a dvd.

Once on DVD, everything can be deleted from the hard drive.
