Project 15% done in FCP7, but FCPX seems more future oriented, faster– Continue with…
I’ve got two projects that I wrote/directed and the actors are really after me to finish them.
One is a 10 minute magical realism short shot in Eastern Europe and the other is a SciFi TV series pilot set in the Nevada Desert in the early 1960’s about a suicidal nuclear plant manager: Interference Wave.
I knew little about logging etc when I shot it, I have traveled around, had several HD failures, but still have the footage. It is quite disorganized, I am still in the stage of picking out takes, finding out which clips are which scenes, etc.
I worked hard, over several hundred hours learning FCP7 and got some intros done ( maybe 15% of target length for both projects) before X came out.
Now I am looking at switching to X, I have 7toX and seem to be able to work it.
It seems once you learn it, FCPX is faster, uses more of my CPU ( I have MBP 2011 2.3 i7/8 GB/1 GB VRAM/300 SSD)
However, I can’t afford the updates to X for the Tiffen two and three strip plug-ins I’d like to use.
Bottom line: Which should I use? The future oriented X or the one I already know better?
(I know the “pro” thing to do is “spend the money and pay an editor”. I just don’t have it. Please don’t yell at me for being poor, I know very well it would be great to pay someone better: I just don’t have it. )
Thanks
